When does school close?
In the event of inclement weather, preschool will be closed whenever the Poudre School District closes. Please check the school district website here. Closings are announced by 5:30 a.m. If the school district is on a 2 hour delay start, all classes will be canceled. Will my child always be with a teacher?
Children are with the classroom teachers at all times, whether they are in the building, on the playground or in a pre-authorized outing away from the preschool. Head counts are frequently taken throughout the day. In the unlikely event a child could not be accounted for, his/her parents and authorities would be notified immediately. When may I come into the classroom?
Parents are welcome to visit the classroom anytime with or without advance notice. Parent volunteers are always needed and welcome. The monthly newsletters and class bulletin boards will keep you informed of specific activities for which we need parent helpers. How will my child be disciplined?
Our discipline policy strives to positively redirect a child from an unacceptable behavior to an activity that is more rewarding. Our goal is to have each child learn through his/her choices and we focus on a positive self-esteem. Some behaviors may result in a brief time out from the group, but still within sight of an adult in the educational environment. We strive to teach each child how to assertively express his or her self with words when having a difficulty with another child. Communication with parents regarding difficulties is open and ongoing as circumstances may require. |
How do I communicate with the teachers?
A monthly newsletter will keep you informed of upcoming events in your child's classroom. Look for it in your child's cubby the first week of each month. Please read it so you can be informed of what is happening in your child's room. We will also place other important information in your child's cubby so please make sure to check it each day. It is very beneficial to the staff and your child that you keep us informed of changes in family life routines or "phases" that your child may be experiencing. Sometimes changes may greatly affect your child's behavior at school. Whenever you have any questions or concerns, please mention these to a teacher. If it is not possible to talk at that moment (arrival and dismissal times, especially, can be hectic), the teacher will schedule a time at your earliest convenience. Also, please feel free to call the teacher at home. What types of snacks are served?
A nutritious snack and drink provided by the parents are served each day. In accordance with the requests of the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, St. Luke's Preschool will abide by the regulations to prevent the spread of Hepatitis A. According to these regulations, only pre-packaged, commercially prepared foods from retail stores or bakeries may be served. If something is not individually wrapped, only an adult with clean hands will serve the children. We will notify you in advance which day we will be celebrating your child's birthday. Children with summer birthdays will have a day to celebrate their half birthday. You are allowed your choice of snack for birthdays, but we encourage you to provide something nutritious. The teacher can provide suggestions, if you wish. Please do not send a cake or cupcakes. It takes a lot of time to wash the faces and hands of up to 24 children. |
